The Compass

The Compass
Compass according to Oxford Advance learner dictionary is an instrument used to find direction with a needle always pointing north.Wow! what a great definition.
This instrument when sailors do without it they may be lost forever on the ocean. Even pilots don’t disregard or move an itch without it, whether manual or electronic form. This is what leads you to your destination. Therefore when you have this instrument you arrive on timea to your right destination. Unlike someone who don’t have one he or she we depend on trial by error and will end up wasting time which will result into wasted life. May you never waste your life in Jesus name.Amen.
Life is a journey as it has been said from one generation to another, and we can not reach our destination successfully without a compass. Life without a compass will end up in compound or complex frustration.
Eccl 10:15
The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.
KJV

If life is a journey and compass is an instrument that directs a sojourner through the right path he should take in order to get to his right destination and on time, then, what is this compass of life? How can I get it? and how do I use it?
One thing we usedto  know is that we did not make ourselves, we are made by God who is invisible but everything is visible to Him. He is the author and finisher of everything that pertains to us. He is the beginning and the end.
Listen to what He said in the book of prophet Isaiah.
Isa 58:11
And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
KJV
Please note the sentence, guide thee continually. It is Gods will and wish to guide us continually in everything we do and not optionally or conditionally or temporarily. So God is this compass we are talking about, he should be the one to show and guide us through every step we take in life. King David understood this and started to live in the reality of this, he exclaimed :

Ps 23
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. (KJV)

From this scriptures we can deduce that God can not lead you and you will be in lack, He can not be your shepherd and your peace is taken away, He can not be leading you and you are filled with worries. He can not be your guide and you are playing with sin, he can not be your leader and you are filled with fear. He can not be your compass and through the path He has pointed out to you enemies now torment you therein,NO it is not possible. He can not be your shepherd and you will not carry His presence forever.
Who is this Compass God?
There is only one God but this one God is made up of three personalities.
God the Father
God the Son
God the Holy Spirit
This is what we call the “Trinity” No one is greater than the other, the glory you ascribe to one is been received by all at the same time because no one stand as an autonomy. It was God the father that spoke in Genesis “Come let us make man in our own image”. He is the one who came to the earth and met it void but as He will not go anywhere alone the Son and the Holy Spirit was there too. The bible recorded that His spirit was hovering around on the surface of the water. That is the Holy Spirit ready to bring to pass whatsoever the father will say or command. And as the Father began to speak the Holy Spirit was creating.
Gen 1:1-4

1 In the beginning God created the Heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
KJV

The Son took advantage of the rare opportunity by taking upon him the unnecessary necessary humility to become flesh and die for our sins, paying the ultimate price for our freedom from bondage of sin.
And when the son having completed His 33 years assignment on earth said “I go, but the Father shall send you a comforter who will teach and guide you” and gave them an instruction to gather together at the upper room and no one should step out an itch until the spirit is come upon them.

Luke 24:49
49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
KJV

Only if christains recognize the importance of this instruction they would not have fallen prey to the devices of the devil.

What is this promise and  what is this power?

A man who knows where he is going goes there with all confidence and confidence is an evidence of power. So what is this promise and what is this power?
John 14:12-16

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

Did you hear that? He just promised us in that verse, to pray to the Father to give us another comforter! Ok. Let us read on

John 14:17-21

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
KJV

John 16:7-15

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
KJV

So who is this comforter? Let us check.

John 14:26

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
KJV

Wow! So the Holy Spirit is the promise and the power. Then what is His function in our lives?

The Holy Spirit has many functions as we have treated in the previous articleentitiled “The Holy Spirit the Believers Advantage” so please read it up on this blog to have a better understanding. However, we shall expanciate on one function and that is the role of “showing and directing” i.e His role as an indispensable, compromisable, and irreplaceable Compass of Life.

The compass of life

Prov 3:5-6

5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
KJV

This implies that there is never a time God wanted us to lean upon our own understanding but in everything we do we should always ask him how to go about it, then he shall direct us after we have asked him to do so. So, you see that you are responsible for the toiling and struggles you are going through. Have you asked the Holy Spirit to show you, or tell you or guide you into how to go about the matter per time? If you don’t talk to him first he won’t talk to you. Remember and he shall direct your paths. So you want to go into business deal? Better tell him and wait until he has replied you. Don’t be in a hurry.

Remember you are always with His presence ( 2 Cor. 13:14: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with you all). Therefore, involve Him in your life affairs, and day to day activities. Shalom.
